no so much buddy...not to many people can house these fish let alone 2 so i have 1 mine up for grabs so I get a different cichla to add to my collection, and I know azuls have alot of pull in the cichla game...well...thats just my case, I cant speak for everyone else....and alot of people pick up so many knowing that they make some $$$ once they get larger.

lol, if your "ghosting" why do you need to tell us in your signature when you are posting?

Most people hear a fish is the bees knees and without a thought buy it, then they realize hey this fish really isnt that cool, kinda like the beani. Because if they were that cool they would be staples in the hobby. unless its just a newly discovered species or something.

This has always been the problem on the "monster" fish..As mentioned...they all go through their 'fad' state. A lot of people buy the fish so they can show it off or say I have so and so...but they have it in a 20g tank. They don't do their research. Soon enough the fish is growing too fast or eating too much...You also have the ones that buy it without a thought and are then 'dissapointed'. What do you expect the fish to do for you? Dance?

Cichla are a good example of this because they don't start getting their colors and really showing off their 'personality' until a certain size, which a lot of people dont have the patience for.

Then there's the ones that will stock up to try and resell at a higher price later...

So...whats the next 'fad' fish...It all cycles. GATF should be coming in seaon soon so get ready...IMO it will be Barra's...again.

another fad fish..............notice all the ray threads are gone.............all the GATF threads, gone

what will be next?

Sad part they are all beautiful fish, people should learn to buy a fish to enjoy, not to impress

It's happening.

well in my case im getting out on my azul becasue his eye is getting a bust and he wont be able to compete with the new coming guys. i have another azul though i won't go azul'les hahha.

While what everyone is saying here is often true. However, some months back a flood of small azuls came on the market at a price that was reasonably affordable. A good number of individuals picked up more of these than they planned on keeping forever, to either improve their odds of getting the highest quality fish, or in an attempt to sell the extras later to offset theie initial purchase costs. Most of the fish we are seeing on the market right now are these "extra" fish.

Regarding the cyclical fads, from my experiences, the fads follow the seasonal availability of the fish. And yes, many individuals on this board do get caught up in these fads and regularly rotate fish accordingly. We may not all feel like this is the best way to keep fish, but there really is nothing wrong with it so long as the fish end up in acceptable homes in the end.

Wait, so you have one eye blind azul and one is struggling to push 3" ?
And you have new coming guys? I am impressed.

Think about it like this, a fish can live for years, many years, yet you see these threads all the time "look what I picked up this week!" If you were on a dog forum and you bought a new dog every week, the forum would tell you, you are an idiot, it should be the same here. But that is not the case, here we have the "fish hoarders", we need more MONSTERFISH KEEPERS and less impules buyers.

Look at the threads here that have mature fish, very few, and most of those are ones that people have bought mature. Enjoy the hobby, raise your fish, learn about the breed..............patience, try it, you may like it.
