Washington state
Is it because they've become endangered, or is it for ecological reasons. In Washington State they are illegal.

Ecological reasons. They are native to North America, but they are not native to the West Coast of America. They can probably survive our winters so if anyone releases these guys into our native waters...well...you get the hint. ;)

Have you seen a pic of a full size one? Should be enough said. :grinno:

I just bought at a lfs in Seattle. He's 5". How much time will I be able to keep him before he attacks the children lol. In other words, I have him in 180gl tank. Will I only be able to keep him for a few months? a year? 2 years? Or should I just sell him now while he's a small cute alligator gar?

Hey oddball! I agree that the salmon need to be protected here. But I can gaurantee that a colony of gars would have nothing on those darn sealions that are out in the puget sound. The libs are forever defending those things

OK lets get this for a sec.... your asking why they are Illegal.. then state you bought one illegally and now want to know when to sell it illegally because there is no way you can actually keep it.....

My head hurts.....For the life of me I can not figure out you people.

To answer your question on why these fish are Illegal... People like you make these laws needed. You can not be trusted to make informed decisions on your own so you need to be regulated and told what you can or can not do...Infantile behavior calls for treating you like an infant.
