OK lets get this for a sec.... your asking why they are Illegal.. then state you bought one illegally and now want to know when to sell it illegally because there is no way you can actually keep it.....

My head hurts.....For the life of me I can not figure out you people.

To answer your question on why these fish are Illegal... People like you make these laws needed. You can not be trusted to make informed decisions on your own so you need to be regulated and told what you can or can not do...Infantile behavior calls for treating you like an infant.

:iagree: Its 5 inches now, and you know it will grow to 10 ft. Your biggest tank is a 180. So whats the question again?

I think a lot of reasons for fish being illegal is clear, they are either usally endangered or non-native species that can wreck the local eco-system, I still want some channa or asian aros though!!!

a. gar.. illegal.. is it? what about california?:screwy: i'm getting dizzy with these legal and illegal stuff going around. some states have some fish legal and some illegal. and vise versa! i'll just keep pictures in the tank! :irked:

with regards to the a. gar that would be 10ft... then if it comes to a point you can't keep it... i don't know but just give it away or the worst thing you want to do is cook it. no offense but better eat it than getting a jail sentence.:) peace!:D

So what type of gars are legal to have on the west coast? Are gars legal on the east? How about in the Mid?

No Gars are legal to own on the West Coast. They are native to just about everywhere else in the country (one or multiple species), and thus, are legal. Yeah, it's cool to have a bad-ass predatory fish...but a little common sense has to be utilized too...if you can't sell it, can't house it, can't release it, and don't want to eat it...don't get it!

They are legal here and I see them for sale all of the time. In Florida they live in spring fed rivers and streams. The water is about 65 - 70 F year round. Swimming with them is impressive because they get really large and hang out in groups. They just sit there and stare at you with their huge teeth kind of like a barracuda, but more intimidating I think.
