Why are L46 (zebra Plecos) so expensive?

Orders for unborn fry at a LFS are $250.00, a deposit is needed. Then their is the wait....
 
They have some here in Houston. They say they are $35. I was also told that they are false zebra plecos. I could not tell the difference, I might get some!

Won't happen in this century.
 
I met a guy from Chicago that bred them. He sold the little ones for around $150 I think. I wish I would have bought some when they were that cheap. I had some once that cost me $40. That was back when they were importing them. I had no luck with them.
 
this is the perfect reason to boycott. those people laughing at us, counting their easy money will have to lower their prices.

then i can get some some of those hundred dollar shrimp that i want.

why not get a king tiger pleco. looks just as nice. i got mine for 9 dollars but couldnt get it food in time and it died.
 
Boycott in a perfect world.... however people will always, and continue to pay the 250.00 and up prices. The only solution is a full on breeding program which will still be years and years away.
 
This could be a reason to boycott the fish, but people want this one, and it isn't mutilated to make it look this way, so it's not my boycott. I just won'g get one because I can't see spending that much on a fish.

$150 around here... but I think the LFS I saw them at had an "in" with a breeder. They were also selling 3" Stendker Discus for $60 (BOGO too!)
