My small Dats are rubbing on the gravel and decor in my tank. Water parameters are good except for my ph....it's always low. I need to raise it. Would that cause the fish to flick? I don't see any external parasites.

I'm not sure about Dat, but piranha when some thing bothering them or bad water, it will flash against the gravel. I would do a good water change every 3 day. give him clean water. Again this is just for piranha, i don't know about dat. could be different.

check to see if they have ich. It looks like tiny white grains of salt on the surface of the skin. It is a very common disease to fish, and very easily treated

Dats flick when theres something bothering them. Do a water change, and get the PH up.

I agree with Onion01. The "ich dance" begins before there is visible ich. The ich will burrow into the fish and cause them to itch. Once the ich is visable to the naked eye, it is a pustule about to pop and spread thousands more.

Adding cruched coral along with your filter media or in your substrate will increase your ph.

Look for any sign of disease. Scratching can be many different things that affect dats. It could be ich, gill flukes, or dat disease. Ich might be the problem but try checking inside their gills to see if theres any redness or swelling. If there is than its gill flukes. Dat disease looks like pimples along the body where fins usually come off the body. For the ich I would use copper sulfate as its a mild med that kills ich quick and clout or fluke tabs to take care of the gill flukes. If its dat disease use salt and heat. Keep us posted and good luck

check for signs of whitespot first, if not ich get your PH sorted, i had an issue with flicking when i was getting ph drops but once it was stabilised it stopped.

My dat does that from time to time, I made a thread exactly like this and I got 10 responses saying their dats do it too. So I assume dats do this normally, unless they really have a case of ick. My dat doesn't do it that much nowadays, so maybe you should wait it out.
