Why Are MY RBP's So Jumpy?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
that doesn't give any explanation for them originally acting so well then changing overnight?
but thanks for the advice guys, i will do my best. any more input would be great as well.

I wouldnt worry, ive seen with mine that one controls everyone else, one steps out of line and he gets put pack in place. One eats first than the others eat. Could be this. Does one jump than the others?

What is in your tank for decorations?they need lots of plants n things to hide behind if they feel spooked their like a 3year old kid if I can't see you you can't see me.you can never have enough live plants!from my experiences the darker the gravel n the more plants the calmer they are.also are you feeding them enough?they get pretty jumpy with others nipping at their tails! Dim lights for sure.maybe cover a corner of tank with a towel to give em a place to retreat too. IMO tint on the inside of a tank is crazy!tint has chemicals in the glue! GL

i wuld just go with lots of hiding places and put some plants at both ends of your tank so ya can only realy see them from the front giv them time and they will get settled in and be happy.

well, they've gotten better, and worse. they are much more courageous and swim on the glass and stuff but are still a little jumpy, as to be expected from rbp. but now they are sooo agressive with eachother, and i keep them stuffed to the brim. while i was feeding them for like the 8 time that day one got nipped a little and they all attacked, leaving nothing but a brething face and part of a forhead. the biggest one is now 2 inches and the smallest an inch, tank is 46 gallons and the water temp is at 82.
i've never had this happen with rbps,
whats up??!?!?!

Odd man out!you'll never know. You might not of seen it but his siblings might of knew there was something wrong with him.they might of culled the weakest?its a fish eat fish world out there! It always suks losing a fish though!

I have a few myself and I DON'T have any issues with them being shy. In fact I think their showing off to me...lol. But on the other hand, I seat and watch them everyday. So maybe they know my face? Eitherway I hope you find what works for them.
Goodluck

The fact that some are 2" is a little sketchy also.

I moved my 4 RBP's to a 75 gallon from a 30 as soon as they were about 2.5"
I'm sure getting a much larger tank to actually facilitate 19 fish (or 18, whatever the case) will help out tremendously.

Then they'll settle down and figure it out from there.
