Just sample a stingray, you think breeding both albino ray parent is that you have a 100% guarantee that all babies will be albino?
But those are the same type of recessive genes, and the inheritance pattern works the same for both of those. You talking about eyes not skin color or morphing..
I think platinum bichirs are farmed. I see batches of them for sale on ebay (for $60) and aquaticarts all the time. I don't see why they would be any harder to breed than white rabbits. Once you get two platinum parents, then you are set for good, and all the babies will be platinum forever.Either the market is controlled so plats remains supreme premium $$$ like said above
Or
Plats are still rare even if both parents are plats.
Pick 1
Not being rude, but if you can show proof that both platinum bichirs can produce 100% platinum babies then i will stand by what your saying. But those are the same type of recessive genes, and the inheritance pattern works the same for both of those.
Also not being rude, and with due respect, but have you bred two platinum bichirs together, which produced brown offspring? Since what I was saying is from standard genetics textbooks plus known animal husbandry breeding, then the duty is not on me to prove what I was saying, because it's already accepted as true, in science. The only person who would have to prove it, is someone who disagreed with known science. Not being rude, but if you can show proof that both platinum bichirs can produce 100% platinum babies then i will stand by what your saying.
No i dont breed any fish but have some friends that do. Also breeding bichir in a tank is hard not like other fish. Your saying its all known to science when science dont know alot about bichirs. We have bichirs in the wild that are not even actaully classified. Also not being rude, and with due respect, but have you bred two platinum bichirs together, which produced brown offspring? Captive bred bichirs get to a "bottle neck" in genes very quickly. Captive bred sens, dels, endli all have genetics different then their wild counter parts. Smaller size, lack of pattern, head shape differences all qualities that are not desirable. Most of the hard core bichir people can look at the fish just from head shape and tell you it's cb or not. I am not that good I don't see the subtle differences, but I've seen some bad ones and said that's obviously cb. As for what you are saying about the platinum color morph and how it should work you are correct there is a little more to it but basics is correct. Now are those platinum bichirs we just created going to be viable? Or do we need to diversify the gene pool more already? I don't know as I've not bred them. At what point in the generations do you get sens that don't get bigger then 6" or develop weird spinal issues or fin issues or health issues. I reentered the fresh water fish world with 2 sens from petco albino and a regular neither one has grown past 6" and the regular one died from a tumor. He lived for about 3 years. The albino I still have and he's just barely 6". I know they are captive bred. I'd say if you find a platinum bichir for $60 stay away from it. Cheapest platinum bichir I have seen was 2 sens at $175 each. I wouldn't even say they were grade "a" or how ever they market it. WhenI think platinum bichirs are farmed. You know honestly those don't look to bad. Not "a" grade yellowing in the tail area, probably why they are $60. Are they going to stop growing at 6" maybe 8"? Are you only going to have them for a few years? Probably. I've seen wild caught sens at 12" and are 15 years old, or should I say 15+ because thats how long the person had them.I got curious as to their claim of a $60 platinum senegal on eBay so I went looking for it. I don’t know much about white tank treatments but I’d bet that if those were the actual fish being sold and they weren’t platinum then they’d have been given the white tank treatment then put into that show tank for the picture.View attachment 1457735
Didnt see the rest of your post. It looks to me they are platinum. But yeah gotta be careful buying fish from places like ebay.I got curious as to their claim of a $60 platinum senegal on eBay so I went looking for it.
