bottom line....many stores sell cichlids as assorted africans....people who are new to the hobby or africans, will then ask members here for help...and there are more than enough members here who are always willing to help.

it doesent matter what site you buy it from.its all about research .if you want to impulse buy they should have the store hold it and then they can reseach it before they bring it home.and i agree it is the CONSUMERS faultdeadman;2878174; said:the blame rest entierly on the consumer. if folks would read up and know what they are looking for and only bought what they knew for shur, most wouldnt happen, then folks buy from idiots on aquabid. and the consumer is also to blame for believeing the seller as most of them need to make a buck , there isnt alot of money in cichlids so every sale counts even if its a hybrid. impulse buying.im shur the fish store has a book that should cover it, oh yea that requires work.
especially when they are new to a variety were they think they know it all and dont know squat!Seems to me they label the tanks with what the breeder is telling them is in a specific bag. If you have always gotten what you purchased then the sales people must know their stock pretty good. Its good that you have a shop that does that, so many are so lazy they just dump bags of fish together and label it assorted africans. I often see mbuna in with peacocks and haps etc. Sounds like your shop is the exception. Not sure what to tell you about your friend who buys fish and then is suprised when they change, maybe thats part of the fun for him/her ?? Like opening a present, half the fun is guessing whats inside..some people are like that and personally i dont see whats wrong with it as long as they dont mind , why should we ? It would be different if they purchased a specific fish and were getting unwelcome suprises later on...Only problem i see right off the bat might be compatability issues since he doesnt know what he is buying...
