Thank you!

Anyway, I have a question to pose to all the people of MFK.
Why are you still keeping fish?
It's expensive.
Water changes are another thing to add to my schedule.
There's no way to make money doing it.
Ordinary people (non-fishkeepers) can't find any good reason whatsoever to do what they see us do for our fish. Quite frankly, I can't even see a good reason to stay in the hobby.
Only 4 of the fish I own have any real personality worth mentioning.
But I LOVE keeping fish. There's something so satisfying about a clean piece of a river/ocean in my home that just makes me... Happy.
Anybody feel the same way?

because we all started in a womb of water!-)

a) I like it better than golfing, skiing, hiking, camping, hunting, fishing, or flying an airplane. Better hobby!
b) it's not anymore expensive than you want it to be. A 40 gallon with a sponge filter and 6 2-inch fish works fine. A pond or a 1,000 gallon works too.
c) I don't do any hobbies to make money
d) I like water changes...! If I didn't, I'd set up an auto changer
e) who cares what other people think? I get one life and this is the way I want it
f) dithers don't need personality, the rest better have that or offer me some look at the ancient world. Except, for dithers, I only pick fish that give me something back. Don't keep any fish who don't serve a purpose.

-It's good to see a piece of nature inside the house,
-what's more it has less maintenance than owning a dog(for me),
-you could be an artist via aqua-scaping,
-a huge wow for visitors,
-a commendable hobby which requires formidable commitment,
-a huge steam off from stress,
-I just love fish, whether it's plate or tanks, I do love fish...

There is something about fish that has always been interesting and calming to me. I have always loved fishing fish water and being able to keep tanks in my room is amazing. I can look at my fish for hours on end and I imagine when I move my small tank to the living room and get my big tank in my room I will not be seen for a few days.

My thoughts exactly. Doesn't have to be expensive if you don't want it to be. A small goldfish in a 1 gallon bowl with water change water dechlorinating in a 5 gallon bucket costs next to nothing.:)

Honestly it's a roller coaster ride with me. One minute I love the hobby and the next I could give it all up. Usually the give it all up feeling comes from one of my fish being sick and struggling with trying to care for him. It's a great way to escape from reality if only for a little while. I feel like if everything is going right in my tanks and my fish look good then all is good in life. I take pride in providing the best environment for my fish that I can. Even though in the back of my head I feel guilty for keeping them in a little glass box. I don't even want to get started on that can of worms though lol.

Every one of those points are so

1. So? A water change takes 15 minutes tops. I doubt your THAT busy.
2. No way in making money keeping fish? What???
3. Quite frankly, I don't see a good reason to go put up a tent and poop in the woods and pretend I'm a caveman when I already pay for a house to LIVE in...
and lastly,
Personality is what you make it, my dog doesn't have a personality worth mentioning either.
