My Dad kept fish when I was young. I couldn't help with the up-keep back then, but he let me "have one". I added a dwarf african frog to the tank. Little did I know his "kissing fish" (gourami) would eat him in three days. I hated those fish ever since.
Oddly enough, you would think that story would keep me away from fish keeping. But in general, I find them fascinating. I started keeping bettas, but didn't think they did too well in jars and vases, so I started keeping them in real tanks. The tanks needed more than just a betta to justify all that work, so naturally I had to learn about more types of fish. I went with tetras and platies at first, and now I'm into some cichlids (no bettas in that tank). I didn't intend to breed them, but I guess I have some fry on the way now, lol. Only time will tell where I'm heading.
