WHY ARE YOU IN THE HOBBY?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My dad always kept fish when I was little, but never kept up on the water changes. So, I eventually inherited his tank when I got a little older, and am addicted ever since!

I think that one of my most favorite things about fish keeping is actually aquascaping the tanks to fit the needs of the fish that I keep. I like to make the tanks look nice, and also have happy, healthy fish! :D

I love my fish... and Axolotls!

born to be a Monster Fish Keeper baby!!! Hell Yeah!

My ex had a 10g and after we broke up I decided I still wanted some fish. While at the LFS, they had their 75s on sale and I bought some midas for it. After they bred in it, I was hooked. Wish I knew then what I do now about them breeding b/c he the male wouldn't have wiped out the whole tank like he did.

my dad kept aggressive fish in a 150g when i was a little boy, with a 20g pirahna tank on the under part of the stand. These fish were cool but i was too young to appreciate them. I had 4 RES turtles in my life. The first 2 died i think, but the second pair lived happily. They started in a chinatown small small cage, when they were the size of quarters. upgraded to a 1.5 gallon, let them grow even more. Next upgrade was a 20 gallon long tank, with a heat lamp, floating basking rock, filter, and heater. One time i went on vacation for 6 days and they didnt die suprisingly. They are still alive as classroom pets. Turtles are harder to keep than fish imo because the water really did start to smell bad, and the filter was always slimy and gross. also, for some strange reason i never bought a siphon tube, so i had to carry that super heavy tank(half filled) from my room to the bathtub. I dont regret getting rid of them. My friend started fishkeeping (almost 3 years ago) which brought back some interest as i went to the LFS with him. What really did it for me was when he got a 150g tank off craigslist. after that i knew i wanted a tank. Now i have a 55g african tank with 4 fish so far (2 fronts, yellow lab, blue peacock). I just changed my gravel to sand and im delighted at how it looks. I used home depot play sand. the biggest thing i learned from owning a tank is that having friends helps so much. My good friend helped me setup the tank and helped me go buy it off craigslist from the guy. he helped me cycle my tank and he helped me wash the sand which doing alone is a very boring and laborous task. I dont think ill get bored of fish but who knows.

What sparked your interest, how did you get involved in this hobby? Waht are your goals? This is pretty wide open. LET US KNOW:headbang2

-My dad got me into this hobby. He use to keep fish.
-My goals: Collect rare and exotic fish and own a 1000g+ tank in the near future.
-And as for chicks, they love it :) My girlfriend has a tank of her own.

Its true chicks dig BIG fish ;) I started back in the day with bettas then had them all through the house. Then the 10 gallon. 20..75 and now I'm lookin for a 210+. I'm obsessed with fronts. I almost have more fronts then heels *giggle*

Damn all the chicks.. Im walkin in the store, and she's like, "dude, I hear you have fish!" And I'm like, "You bet I do". and shes all like, "Let me see em." So then I take her home with me, and show her the fish! Then she's all like, "Wow, those are some amazing fish" and i'm like, "Oh Yeah."

hahahahahahahahah

i started aquaristics because its the only thing that can bring me inner peace... weird maybe but when i'm busy with the tanks i am so calme i think that there are a lot of people who are like me... and girls love it 2 :D

My boss gave me a 15g tank and some guppies a year ago. Did some research and came across this site. After seeing other members' monster fishes I decided to raise some and so far I'm doing ok with this hobby. I will be forever grateful to all MFKers for guiding me to the right direction. My goal is to provide my fishes the best environment and care that I could give so we can grow old together. Oh, and I still have the guppies and their in a bigger tank now.
