WHY ARE YOU IN THE HOBBY?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have always enjoyed fishing and one day i just up and decided to keep a small bluegill i had caught....the beginning of my wife's bane..

I would say all the dudes but Fishmamma beat me to it lol! Actually I had an older brother who had a few tanks and that got me interested as a kid. Now we both have MTS and try to talk each other out of tanks and fish. I even got my sister and her husband into the hobby too! MTS is spreading through our family. Gotta be contagious ;)

Since part of the topic is on goals...

I have hit mine. I finally got a big tank; 210g (72x24x29).

After being away from the hobby for 20+ years I got back in with a vengeance. I started with a 65g breeder sized and a Midas. With in a few months I knew I was hooked and wanted more fish, a community tank of large fish. So next came the 120g (60x18x26) with my Midas, Silver Dollars and Pleco. I still was not 100% done I wanted a larger group of SD's and another fish or two. I have tried out multiple cichlids with my Midas in the 120g and no problems. He is not the typical aggressive Midas, he tolerates tankmates very well. So now the search for the rest of my stock...

After getting the big tank Ive also discovered there is nowhere else in my house that I can have this large of a tank or larger with out a MAJOR remodel based around a tank or to move. So the sad realization came that a 210g was as large of a tank as I'm ever getting, but the happy part is I finally got my dream tank!

i tossed a ring on a bottle so the fair gave me a tiny goldfish in a small goldfish bowl.against all odds it actually survived. 6 months later and we're at a 55g tank with mbunas,,,and the goldfish who is now 10" big.

I'm pretty much your typical bio geek. Anything that lives is interesting to me. I've grown everything from dogs, to fish, to plants, to Staphylococcus aureus (bacteria) and E. coli. If it were up to me the house would be swarming with living creatures of all sorts. The wife keeps me in check.

I guess my goal is to satisfy my curiosity. I've got a ways to go....

my dad kept fish... so naturally I learned from a young age... but we always had at least 1 dog and 1 cat in the house.. and many other pets growing up... both caught out side and bought at the LFS.

My main goal is to keep healthy fish their entire lifespan. I also hope to breed a few species of spiney eels down the road. I enjoy keeping challaneging species. my latest acheived goal was to raise a baby aba aba knife from 3" to over 12". I also started keeping Gar the past 2 yrs and look forward to obtaining more species.

A friend gave me a 29g. I set it up and went to the LFS to stock a few gourami's. The little blue gourami turned out to be a Giant gourami...Upgrading him every year to a larger tank and stocking his old tank with new fish has turned my house into an aquarium..I TRULEY LOVE THIS HOBBY.....

when i was small in Jamaica i used to catch molly, guppies and other fish . may day would make fish tank so i could put them in.came to the U S. where i still love my fish tank and love of fishing.:headbang2
