WHY ARE YOU IN THE HOBBY?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i started in this hobby during my first semester in college, i had severe depression and didnt get along with people so i just happened to go to Petsmart one day out of bordom and i saw the fish and all the differant kinds and it sparked a little interest so i did research, youtube videos ect and i saw how other people had aquariums and at that moment i decided to get an aquarium, in under a year ive gone from a 1 gallon bowl, to 10 gallons, 20 gallons, 29 gallons, and now im on 55 gallons and this is probably one of the best stress relievers ive ever come across and if you can teach some of your fish to eat from your hand like i did, and the fish rub against your fingers, especially my senegal bichir, people think your good at something to get a fsh to do that, as lame as it sounds haha

^this guy needs a hug or something. I started when my sister won a goldfish from the carnival for me and i was always fascinated by fish. MY goal is to get a stingray tank full of uaru, severum and datnoids. Tank ill need to do this with will need to be massive. Probably five hundred gallons. So when i get my career i plan on doing that.

^ this guy... very funny lol

A little old guy, co-worker that is 70 and doesnt want to take care of his tanks anymore so gave me 2, 10 gal which were very good size at the start of the hobby. That was only 3 years ago.

I started keeping fish when i was 7 years old. My parents gave me a 30g marine that they had grew tierd of. I always helped them with w/c and stuff and was hooked from then.
Eventualy i moved out got my own place and set up a fish room with a lot of breeding projects going on as i wanted to put something back into the hobby. I had over 30 tanks eventualy and it was almost a full time job looking after them. I gave up the fish room when i got married but still had tanks in the house then decided to go bigger so all tanks went and replaced them with 2 x 120g and had a malawi biotope in 1 and a tanganikan biotope in the other. I was always inerested in gardening and decided that i wanted a planted tank but not just a few bunches here and there i wanted dutch style and setup a 100g and had this for 8 years. I've had loads of different syle tanks over the years and now have a 600g ray tank. I dont thing i'll be going any bigger but im still breeding fish only now they are rays!

I was 10 years old and my uncle gave me a metal 10 gallon and helped me set it up,I learned from him and reading books from the library and forty years later I'm loving the hobby of fishkeeping. I've had both salt and tropical set ups and I've gone from 2-30 gallon aquariums to a 55 maine set up to a 90 gallon tropical which unless i hit the big one i wont be moving up any time soon to larger one, lol. I agree this hobby is very relaxing and enjoyable.

I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but it also keeps you in shape if you have to carry buckets of water which is also nice for the flowers and plants in the yard. Gosh! This is such a cool hobby =)

When I was 10 I wanted a fish tank but my mom said it was bad luck to keep one inside the house...and that's how it all started ;)
