WHY ARE YOU IN THE HOBBY?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've been into reptiles since I was little, couldn't tell you why. But I've kept tons of geckos and snakes and currently have 9 snakes. Well as a reptile keeper it was only a matter of time until I got a turtle or two. The turtles opened me up to the fish hobby as they are like a link between the two. And from there I've been keeping fish though Im still new and learning.

To be honest I was born with the love of fish. In chana when I was a baby, my grandparents took me to the petstores and outdoor markets just for me to look at fish. They sometimes bought me fish just to play (qiute cruel)!! I remembering grabbing a foot long snakehead and dog fish (shark) that my parent bought for mewhen I was little. i had the sad ironic nature of loving fish but also giving them a hard time!! i never remembered my love of fish from the age of 4 to 13 years old when I moved to canada. finally my love of fish was rebourn when I saw arowanas in my LPS. I sparked my interest again. On my 13 th bday i got my first personal tank which was a 30 gallon. I was planning to get an aro but obviuosly it was too small as i realized now. I was so sad that i couldn't get one. I eventually got bichirs instead. Now I have a 75 gallon with my 4 juvi bichirs!! I hope people have the chance to read my story!

Started up a few years ago when my wife (girlfriend at the time) bought a 10 gallon tank, we kept that for a few months and I had no interest at all in it. Valentines day came around and she told ne she wanted something a little bigger. So I bought a 46 bow front, and for a few more months after setting it up, still had no interest. Until one day I went to the fish store and came across a tiger Oscar, that was just begging me to take him home. Within about 24 hours he ate every fish in her tank besides our Pleco and some kind of catfish we had at the time. He sparked my interest but I was still not big into fish keeping, until we had a bacterial bloom. While searching for the answer on how to fix the problem I started coming across different articles on fish keeping, pictures of setups, and sites like this one. Since then I've been hooked, buying bigger tanks one after another, trying to put together my dream setup. A little over three years later, Swamp Thing, my first O is still moving up and getting new tank mates. :)

I wanted a tank when I was 8 so for my birthday my parents got me a ten gallon starter kit. I got 1 panda Cory and a few marigold swordtails well about a year later they started breeding all on there own and I had them for the last 10 years and had gotten into chichlids when the swordtails started dying and that's pretty much taken over my life :)

My dad always kept a little 10 gallon aquarium when I was a kid, I loved it. He didn't pursue it any farther but I was hooked and have had various sized tanks my whole life since then

I think you win Best Story so far. LOL. and what did you do to mend your wife's broken heart after swamp thing ate all her fish? haha.

I got into the hobby almost two years ago as a form of stress relief and to add some living art to my apartment. It's now a full on addiction  My name is Eric, and I'm addicted to the fish hobby :D

My parents used to have a fishtank in every room when I was really young. My mom used to breed discus. I got started when I was around 13-14 years old. I had a 10x10 room and had a 220, 125, and a 60 gallon tank and then my bed lol. I have been collecting for over 27 years now and hope to pass it down to my son.

When I was young (8-9) my family used to go to the Monterrey aquarium. I loved staring at the schools swim through the kelp forests. Unfortunately I never kept anything of my own until we bought my stepson a 29g for Christmas one year. Surprise surprise, I ended up taking care of it and being the only one interested. Eventually I was able to turn that into my current 110g and am in the planning stage for building a 300+ tank so I'll be able to keep rays.

I like fish.
