Why Arent My Orange Head Geos Growing?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Increase your temperature !
Geos inhabit shallow waters ie.. The warm spots in the rivers . 80 is fine but they will grow quicker at 85 .
Fish are like plants they grow more when it's warmer

I didn't make note of what size at what age, but after a year I had probably four 5.5-6 inch males in my original group that were all an inch, give or take, when I first got them-- smaller females, couple smaller males. I kept a breeding pair, haven't measured the male but I'd estimate he's a good 6.5 inches, maybe near 7 now (I'm usually good at eyeballing) little less than two years since I got them.

Initially had them in a 75 gal tank, then moved some to a 135, weekly water changes (50-60% in the 75, 35-40% in the 135), ph in low-mid 7s, temp 80, fed basically on some combination of NLS and/or Omega Color/Omega Shrimp pellets. Judging by fry I've kept from my pair, growth to an inch or two seems slow, but they pick up some after that-- but that's a rough observation, not something I've kept careful track of. I tend to pay more attention to size at one year than incremental growth.

Hey Everyone, wish thier was away where I could get notifications on my phone when my thred has been replied. Thanks for all your help. For the past week I have kept up with every other day water changes and basically fed them 5-6x a day and from 1.5 inches they have grown to 2 inches! Thats a lot of growth in such a short time!!!

I have ordered other foods like mysis, bloodworms, cobalt flakes and cobalt pellets to help make thier diet more varid. The temp of the tank is 79-80. Can I just turn the Heater up to 85 in one night? Or should I go up a degree every day...otherday...week?

Great pics, would reply individually but would take too long lol

Make sure you increase the temps slowly, you definitely don't want to just crank the heater to 85 and let it go up right away. I personally only increase a degree or two per day until I get to the target temperature. I'm not sure what the max you can increase at one time is for specific fish, but I tend to err on the side of caution.

Thanks for tip, before i up the temp just need to check if the emerald cory cats can take the heat as well as the severums. Thanks again
