Hows it going? i have had many problems buying what i thought or was told to be Festae at my lfs and about a month ago i bought one thinking tht i found a deal they had on the tank Red Terror and it was $7.99 (which i thought was a steal) so i bought it... found out 2 to 3 days later it was a mayan... yea i was pissed tht i didnt have what i wanted... but glad i didnt pay the price.. decided to keep it.. a day or two ago i found another lfs and called them up so see what fish they had that wouldnt normally be there... they told me "True Festae" i ask the price and it made me think at that price maybe they do have the real thing... i run to the lfs to see what they have now remember that im new to this festae thing and i have done alot of research on the fish... needless to say i ended up buying two of them for $40.00 after tax.. i get them home and i start looking alil closer and there starting to look alil different in my tank.. i call back they pretty much guarantee me that they are "True Festae" so now all i can do is wait and see or leave it up to you guys to judge so here is a few pics tell me what you all think?

The fish pictured are mayans.

Not festae they are Mayans again 2 sure fire ways to tell is if they have a y bar right behind the gill plate and if they have a smaller tail dot farther up on the tail instead of a whole tail dot

pendejo i think i might just have to do that because this is f'ed up to the 5th power and i really think tht my lfs think tht they are festae i paid $19.00 each for these things... can you say pissed off... how do i go about ordering them from rapps i just want a pair...

Contact him or Google Jeff Rapps and get his information via his site. I don't want to say that your LFS ripped you off, since there is a chance that they, themselves might not even know. However, if you knew what you were looking for, you would have known these were Mayans right away. Research and look at pictures of them on Google. You should get to know them and I mean REALLY get to know them. You need to be able to recognize them on sight as opposed to buying and finding out later. I personally found it easy to see the differences but it might not be that way for everyone. Always look for the Y bar on their head. A Mayan will never have this Y bar. If they aren't barred then look for the tail spot. A festae's tail-spot will always be smaller than half of the width of the place where the tail connects to the tail fin. If I had to give them numerical values it'd be something like Festae <= 1/2 and Mayan >= 2/3. You can always take pictures and ask members on MFK before taking the plunge. 40 dollars is a lot of money spent on Mayans (not that they're bad fish, just not the fish you wanted).

You can place an order with by yourself or go in with other members for a group order. Group orders are cheaper on shipping. Easiest way to place an order is to call him, tell him what you want and he can give you a price for the fish and shipping and you PayPal it to him. I've only had one problem when buying from him and it was UPS's fault, not his but he still made it right as soon as we figured out what happened.

Obviously not enough research there are tons of places on the net that tell you the difference on the fish. The main thing is the tail spot. The spot on a festae is small and only on the upper half of the tail. Mayans have the spot in the middle and large. The "y" is true but they may not show until larger.

I need to spark up my fish life
