Why can't I use this silicone for my tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I believe it's because GE 1 is non structural, and will quickly fail if used to build an aquarium. It's probably alright to seal one, but would likely peel up easier than a construction grade silicon.

I used GE1 on a 150 XT and no problems and that was about 3 or 4 months ago I'm keeping uaru in there and there a little more sensitive then some cichlids

First off, the US has pretty much zero control on advertising, so put about zero stock into claims like "100% blah blah" no matter what you are buying. For this, what is it saying is 100% of the monomer is silicone, as opposed to a hydrocarbon (which would be cheaper for them, like a cardboard filler in dog food), but even the aquarium safe ones are not 100% silicone as there are initiators in there.

Just did some research. It turns out even GE silicone labeled 100 % silicone HAS some mold inhibitors!!!

mind posting the proof? mold resistant doesn't necessarily mean they've added inhibitors. I've used GE I for my sump baffles and haven't had any problems.
