Why did metal framed tanks become obsolete?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm not sure if it was a mistake or not but I always had a soft spot for these. Had one that tipped forward during LA earthquake in 86. They are pretty hard to come by around here and would look great with my Mid century modern furniture. I do recall the dome was a PITA to clean though, but the bubbles magnifying effect was awesome on my ryukin.

Damn your in menifee, I would of got it lol.

The metal tanks with slate bottoms were heavy. The tar they used to seal them would dry out if the tank was not continuously filled, causing leaks. Metal, water, and electricity don't mix. Tanks without metal looked more modern and were cheaper to make.

I'd really like to recover an old metal tank sitting behind my uncles auto shop for the wifeys goldfish, anyone know how to do it?
