why did my aro just start freaking out???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
aros dont grow to realize the tank is to small. they can literally overnight realize "damn, this tank sucks". if u can't upgrade the tank til your moved. then ur gonna have to deal with his reactions til then. but i still think an aro over 5" should not be in a 30gal tank.

this doesnt make any sense! youre telling me my aro is in too small of a tank. he has much much swimming space and will be largely upgraded in a short time, yet how often do you see full grown silvers in 150's and they arent freaking out. dont get me wrong i am all for providing fish with more than enough space to fit there needs, but he is not crowded in this tank. he's only 4 1/2-5".

its not the fact that he's "crowded". its the fact that the walls are so close to his face, he feels the size and freaks out. i had 22" silver in my 150 and i can tell you it looked rediculous. he was freakishly large compared to the amount of space there was. so dont go saying "full grown silvers in a 150" when noone has a full grown in a 150. and they do freak out. they can't even dart without hitting the sides then already being at the other end of the tank.

you may be right about tank size and believe me he is going to get a much larger tank real soon. for the record i have seen much larger than 22" silvers in 150's and it makes me sick.

i know what you mean. seeing my 22"er was bad enough dude, i've seen huge huge silvers in smaller tanks and it just looks wrong. makes me sad actually.

try to upgrade sooner rather then later. your aro will act like a retard his whole life if u keep him in the smaller tank to long. real sketchy and jumpy, even after a tank upgrade if u wait to long.

That's kind of funny. A 5" in a 30g..if its a standard 30g..thats 36x12x16. That's 7 times his size in length and 2 times his size in width. Sounds plenty of room for a small aro until he hits 6-8".

How many have a 24" aro in a 10-12' tank that is 3' wide? Not much I'll bet. Most aro owners at most have a 6'x2'x2' tank. Of course there exceptions, the real fish lover will have a 8-10'x30"-36"x30" or so tank, and we all know that even that isn't big enough for a full grown silver.

So everyone that has a silver aro that doesn't have the space such as a huge pond 18'x12'x3' or so shouldn't even bother with aro?

Come on now..be realistic.:screwy:

i was always taught that rule of thumb fish need avg 5 gallons of water per inch of fish.

and just remember what seems big to you may not be to them. and get him a bigger tank before you hurt him and he gets kinked and gill flare.

gill flare is a sure sign of bad tank size.
