I don't know what when wrong. I found him dead in my tank last night in the front right corner of my tank with a mountain of his own poop. It looked like he had let our 2 weeks worth of waste all at once and then died. does anyone know a possible explanation? If it is something preventable I would like to know because I will likely replace him and I have another Pleco in a different tank

I've been feeding him Hikari Algae wafers, and I've been doing weekly water changes so IDK whats wrong, I can get the water checked in the next few days though if thats the problem.. But to be honest I'd be surprised if it is, his tankmates are pretty sensitive to water quality and are doing pretty well

IMO you should have your own test kit.
If you only feed algae wafers, maybe he was constipated? idk, the poop pile may be related to the death.
Tankmates?

EBJD and a tire track eel. 55 gallon. And he likes to eat some of the food I give to the EBJD and tire track as well. I give them blood worms, shrimp, and earth worms (pleco doesn't eat the earth worms though)

I say get the parameters tested. If you werent feeding veggie-type foods though, thatll mess with most plecos digestive systems.

Yes, what are the water parameters. Besides pH, hardness, nitrates, amonia, what about water temp? What size is the EBJD and eel? What size is the pleco. And where did you get your pleco from? Are there hiding places for the pleco (maybe it got stressed out from the other inhabitants picking on it as the "new intruder")?

I'll get my water checked asap

Water temp is at 78.5, the EBJD is 5 inches, the eel is around 15-16 inches, and the pleco was around 6 inches. And I think the tank has more hiding places then open swimming areas. I had this pleco for over a year.
