can someone with knowledge tell me if he's sick or is it his/her diet change, old diet was shrimp now it's chicken heart and in the last month he went from a white belly to a darker grey black belly as in the pictures anybody know why?

He's about 2ft long maybe 5 to 7 years old I got him about 2years ago, he was already big

below is a picture when he was white around a year ago and the darker one's are present

he doesn't look sick or anything..perhaps its a maturity colour change? how does it act, besides the change in colour?

nice looking SH, see if his colors changes back, when you switch back his diet

wrong diet definitely...not only that the micropeltes is a fish eater and should therefore mainly get food that lives in the water, but also a too small aquarium can cause the colour change...

to be honest i suspect this is just him showing his final adult colors , i have seen many micros that change to completely black / bluebase and some keep the total white belly , i don't think it is tank size as i have seen some in public aquaria that have looked alot like yours , i think there is probably regional color variations in micro , as well as each fish having distinct pattern / markings / distribution of white and black , by all means try swapping back diet ,but i really would not worry about it , he looks very healthy

I had a red that was 28 inches she still had a white belly but would turn black like that when she was stressed. I would change back to shrimp and cut up fish.
Yea I am sure mine was a female I used to breed reds. They are very cool in pairs.... so nice to each other as they would rip large cichlids in half.
