Why did you all convert to Brackish? (thinking about it)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I won't be able to get a refractometre any time soon, The reason why I still haven't gone brackish is I need to get a job. until I get one (been applying around a lot lately) I can't really afford to change anything. but when I have money a refractometre would be a very good investment.

I've looked online to try and find a way to calculate the amount of salt i'd need to get to 0.002 SG in my tank, but I suck at maths so its not going very well.

Strat, I agree with you that brackish fish are awesome, but a brackish tank is not a /\/\onster tank without morays, which I don' think you are planning on getting, yet :)

Likewise. Got a friend that has been trying to convert me to salt water for a couple years. Nothing against salt or brackish tanks, they have thier appeal, but I've been doing fresh water for over 20 years and am more excited to continue it now than ever.

I'm staying full freshwater forever.

I've kept morays before so I'm not so excited about them. it killed a panda puffer whilst i was on holiday and wiped out my entire tank. i converted back to fresh after that incident and bred oscars.

I was thinking of getting a moray of some kind, Brackishdude managed to get Morays AND a fire eel to work in his tank so thats changed my opinion on it. I was also under the impression that Brackish fish were expensive but locally I can pick up green scats at 15 bucks each and rubies for 19.

I do really love my cichlids and I will set up a 55-75 cichlid community within the next few years. I would definately keep my breeding honduran redpoints (avatar) in their own tank though.

Tomomothy, I've kept all kinds of tanks,

saltwater reef, saltwater fish only, mixed malawi haps, mixed Mbuna and haps, tangynikan, community, south american biotope, wet pet FH, breeding pair of oscars, Single lion fish. I've kept everything you can imagine and never once tried Brackish, and the fact they are so intersting and cool looking means I'd love to give them a try. with my footprint I'll be able to make a pretty amazing set up.

I'm not sure who has the largest brackish tank on MFK, but I MAY, when I convert be the largest.
