Why Did You Start Keeping Crenicichla?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
those lil critters from Compton LOL

Compressiceps was the 1st. was never into knowing what exactly they or any fish actually was. Down the line some friends had Johannas. It was crazy time once I had money though. Got a bigger tank and more tanks. After Katrina, 1 lfs had various ones in. Just lost a Xingu I and Johanna and was interested in a Scotti the shop had in. When I went on a trip I get a call from my bro sayin he bought it for me only to find out when I got back it wasn't it. Which I started searching for info and bam, pokemon time.

Bought the aqualog book, found VK's site and searched for every pic and info to make my own lil info doc.

great all around fish from what I've had and glad i got into them.

because when i was 10 b4 i got my fish tank my bro had a xingu 1 and a pbass in a tank with 6 red bellies and the pike and pbass didnt take no guff. so i got one of my own. it looked like a lil xingu 1 but green. not a venz ill tell u that and he ruled my tank. just love the personalities. no matter how big or small they run it. just like my lil comp. they're like the pitbull of the fish world :P

wanted to get a fish on the more aggresive side or just something that would eat other fish cuz at the time that was all the rage. tried to order hujetas from aquascape but it was to cold and then i found 2 baby johannas and then i was obsessed.

Because I thought the female Crenicichla sp. Venezuela pink belly is so pretty

I have 2 females and a male

Getting a Crenicichla sp Red Tapajos soon

When I was younger a friend had a huge 15'' pike not sure what it was but since then I was hooked. Came here to MFK and seen a COBRA and had to have one of these beauty's.

Truthfully all pike's are beautiful and there disposition in the tank just make any tank complete. When it come's to true monster's there right there at the top of the list.

got my mamorata (spelling) cos it was on sale and the color/shape reminded me of channa micro. which I could not find at the time. that said, the fish has turned out to be better than I had expected. lots of personality and luckily mine doesn't beat on tank mates, yet.

Pikes for me actually started out of a native fish obsession. I have always wanted a chain pickerel but never had a tank big enough. So I got my first pike (C. Lepidota) because at the time was the closest thing I could get. After I saw how predatory he was with feeders (I was breeding convicts at the time. so no store bought feeders.) and all of his normal actions I was hooked. Especially the first time I got him to take krill from my hand. I was really freaking out.
