hey i was just wondering how do blood parrot cichlids end up getting that nasty mouth.

its a side effect (deformity) as a result of hybridizing two different species, well family of fish. thats why so many people are against them, deformed spine, deformed mouth. a crap swim bladder

I know there are lots of talk that the parrot mouth is from deformity, but I do have a hard time to make myself believe it, deformity only develops a small percentage in a batch. I got a deformed long fin oscar that has a oscar body with the head looks like a black moor gold fish, it was the only one in the whole batch, can we breed hybrid with the exact side effect on every single ones all the time? also, any deformed fish is considered unhealthy, and will have shorter life span, which does not seem to be happening in bp, that is what I don't understand.

usually what i hear alot is the triangle mouth is from the red devil be'n crossed with em.

Its a deformity that was isolated and selectivly bred for.To answer your question(fishinacube) yes a deformity(genetic) that occurs in a batch of fry can be reproduced by selective breeding.

Its a genetic deformity.
not all BPs have the triangle mouth. there are some that can completely close there mouth but are considered low grade(:screwy:)

I thought BP with closed mouth = KKP?

Devil X Sev DOES NOT create blood parrot nor kkp, try it. Many years of selective breeding to get this fish. The breeders arnt going for the triangle mouth. Thats simple a defect in the hybrid. Most are sterilized befor in stores, so they cant be bred.(good for suppliers)
A kkp is a much better healthier fish imo. Purple hearts being the worst (the ones with cut off tails and fins). Actually there is 1 lower breed. The jellybeans, these are the fish that "most of the time" should have been culled, but they dye them to still make profit off of them. Kkps are great quality bps, meaning they are not a deformed ball. Bodys are more flowerhorn-like in shape and have the kok.
I have a french bulldog, which in a way is similiar to parrots. Bred for its deformed, different look, but the animal is limited by its deformities. But for some reason, us humans find this entertaining to watch.
