Why do datnoids prefer a bare bottom tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't think you can determine wether a fish is more comfortable or less stressed in BB tank, they'll get used to it overtime.
If a tiger is eating on a regular basis, the
it's not stressed and settled in well to the tank conditions.
I had sand for 4 years, and bb for last 2 years. No noticable difference with tigers behaviour or stability.

it seems my datnoids dont like bare bottom. they prefer gravel and some decor. the only time when my datnoids are unstable is when my has no gravel and no decor.

ROLF!!!

I have 5 1in indos in a bb setup and 3 are stable 1 is unstable for 30-60min after the lights come on and the other randomly goes unstable. I also have a 6in NTT and a 6in Silver that grew up in a bb setup and were stable and I recently moved them to a black sand blue background setup and they remain stable. I think stability prolly has more to do with each dat's reaction rather than general reactions to environment. Your best bet is to provide the best water quality you can and reduce stress by providing a comfortable living arrangement and suitable tankmates.

In a BB setup the fish don't see thier reflection in the bottom glass they just see whatevers under the glass wether its the stand or the stuff inside the stand under the tank. You only see the reflection as a result of looking through two panes of glass at different angles. If you look down on the bottom pane from the top of your tank you'll notice you can see through it with no reflections.

I guess you left out "and his", and "lives" should be "live", otherwise this would be a disturbing concept
