Why do I always lose my African's? HELP!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Red Shoulder Peacock :D good choice.

As everyone else has said, taking rocks from anywhere without knowing what it is first is bad. The rocks ive acquired for my tanks were bleached and cleaned throughly before being added to my tank (granite). The temp may be of concern also, but then again my africans are at 84-86 (my basement doesnt have ac either). I havent lost anyone since i moved down here, about 3 weeks ago. Your parameters seem to be fine. My best guess for the fish that died? Bad fish. I got one about 2 months ago, dripped acclimated it. Died the next morning.

What is your hardness? etc.

"from the side of the street" to an unused woody area....

First of all, keep your story consistent. Otherwise you create doubt.
Second, Philadelphia is still Philadelphia. Major cities produce toxins like no other, and this includes woody areas around a city. (You don't even know what kind of rock it is)
Third, the temp is high, as myself and another has mentioned.

Did I ask this question to turn it into to a bust my balls session santoury???

Did I say the street was a street in the middle of center city Phila. in the first place?

If you come on here asking for help, or advice, expect to get it. You might not like what you hear, but of all people, you should be open to learning why your fish are likely to be dying.

It has pretty much been established that your choice of rocks was not a wise one. If you don't like us telling you that, then I don't know what else to tell you.

Sometimes problems are not so obvious (as in your case) so I would not be so hasty to dismiss possibilities.

I can take the advice but I don't care for the "tone" of your advice, which I have not really gotten any advice from you yet.

Okay, so the choice of rocks may or not be the issue. I can find numerous posts where people just add rocks from their backyard, by a stream, etc... I would be willing that there some kind of toxins in these areas.

Again, again, again, 2 of the 3 fish died before the rocks were added!!!!

Basically,
I brought up the possibility of the temp and the rocks as being problems. ADVICE: Lower temp a bit, remove rocks.

You just switched it over from CA cichlids this month. This is not the same as having it "set up" for 10 months. It is no longer "established" hence my questioning cycling the tank.
