Do you buy fish before you have somewhere to put them or do you buy them and then work it out somehow? I keep buying fish. Its like I want so many fish, but only have so much room. Is there a shrink out there that can help me with my problem? What about you? How do you approach pickups?

i was like that before....then i stopped buying them....then i started to do theme tanks.
like the Amazon tank, African rift tank...and so on. impulse buying will brake your wallet. pick and chose the fish you want.

i know what your saying and know how you feel.

i do buy alot of fish but i also have planning of whats going to happen to them all.

i never buy a fish without knowledge of the fish.

and most of the fish i buy in bulk (6-8) to find a pair or decent male.

I agree with this, the first year or two I kept buying what I liked, as long as it was about the same size as the something in one of my tanks, then I started to slow down. I still get that strong impulse feeling from time to time, but I've learned to leave the store before its too late.

Well I research all the fish pretty heavily and then right down on paper my long term goals for each of my tanks. Planning, because many of my fish are growouts etc. I do have a terrible problem buying though. I have a good job now where I make quite a bit of money, so at times I act like a spoiled brat. I think hell I work hard for my money I deserve it so I buy the fish. Then I get more tanks. It seems like a never ending cycle for me. Heck I have just now started adding tanks to my garage. It gets a bit rediculous when your fish room is running out of space, so you start moving tanks to the garage. I did the math the other night and I have already spent $5000 on this hobby over the last year. Thats not alot for me, but hell money is money.

Im honestly getting to the same point. I have a few red devil/midas that didn't come out great, so I'm thinking about getting rid of them. They don't look good and there personalities aren't great, so I might as well empty the tank out for other fish. I also have an oscar and parrot fish that I'm not crazy about. I have a clown knife that is taking up a 180. I love that fish, but hate to dedicate so much space to it when I can put CA/SA community in the tank instead. I also have a male flowerhorn that I don't like, but my wife loves. He doesn't have any personality, which is uncommon for flowerhorns. I'm somewhat becoming anti hybrid as well, so I wouldn't mind losing the FHs.

It really depends.. if I'm ordering online I'll have a spot to put them first, even if it consists of a divider..

If it's local I'll pass unless it's a fish I've wanted for a long time and rarely see locally, then I'll pick it up even if I don't have the space.. it's just a simple matter of rearranging ;)

put adds up in the local grocery store or lfs "free fish-call **********"and see if anyone wants them or just post here and maybe someone in your area will take the ones you dont want? Then just get the fish you want.If that doesn't work out for ya-go but more tanks and more fish:ROFL:If all else fails, bag em up and dump in the tanks at lfs or walmart when noone is around:naughty:(that is a joke by the way)

I'm sure the majority of the people here have had this "addiction" at some point. Fish keeping to me is like crack to a crack head. With the extra money you have it would be wise to stock up on tanks, so you won't have to worry about where to put them. :D
