Here are the pictures...after I took them I realised I really need to change that gravel and get a background.

he is sooooooooo cute.. i have to do the same thing.. my albino senegal {looks somewhat orange is on purple gravel}yuck! good luck with him!!

I will probably end up doing some white sand. I have it in all my other tanks besides one but does anyone know what grade they like best? Like do they enjoy playing on the fine grade stuff or the corse stuff like pool filter sand? Oh and thanks for the compliments I take it the stocky shape is a desirable trait? I love that look also.

I just use silica sand from Home depot. Not sure the grade but it's pretty fine.

Yeah, I like my bichirs short and fat.

not very slow, for senagals its normally 3/4-1in. a month depending on what you feed it etc.. and of course it varies, like i think it was marvinbaker who got a congicus and in 3 months it grew 10in.

I certainly did. the 1st pic is when i got him, the 2nd is 3 months later and the last is the congicus now with my smallest senegal. From my experience senegals can grow up about an inch a month til they're 8" and then they slow down as they fill out a bit to about half an inch a month.
