Hello all,

Recently I've set up a new 500 liter tank (130-135 gallon) with an Oscar and a Green Terror in it.
Now I know that Oscars grow a lot faster then Green Terrors but this is ridiculous.

It's been 2 months since I set up this tank and the Oscar went from 5 to 9 inch and the Green Terror hardly grew at all.
The PH is 7, I chance 50% 2 times a week. Nitrates are around 10-15, ammonia and nitrite are 0.
I feed a variety of foods 3 times a day. They never fight so it can't be stress.
It's just these 2 fish in the tank.

It's not the first time I'm having a hard time to get Green Terros to grow. 2 Inch a year is the max I got and I want a big 10 inch Green Terror.
Does anyone have some ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I doubt he'll even be 10 inch after 3 years, my previous Green Terrors hardly even got any bigger then 8 inch and I've seen some awesome GT's on here that have the size of a Midas it seems. Well, I little smaller then a Midas maybe, but still..

What do you feed it. When I had mine they went from 1.5" to 4" in a month. I feed mine hikari cichlid gold and staple. With every other day feeding of frozen brine shrimp and blood worms. I did cold water changes weekly. I had a pair in a 40 breeder.

How big was the GT when you purchased it? In my experience growth rate from 1.5 to 4inches is fast, about 2-3 months. But after they hit the 4inch mark they generally grow pretty slow.

The male was a little shy a 1.5" and the female was 1" . It was 1-2 months before they grew any then I changed their diet. And increased water changes to promote spawning. They were slightly stunted when I got em both were sexually mature with tubes visable . I guess that's why that had such a fast growth rate.

I feed it Hikari Cichlid Gold, Hikari Cichlid Excel as well, NLS, earthworms (don't know if that is the correct translation to English..) and shrimps.

The GT was 5 inch, same size as the Oscar.

Wow 1,5 inch to 4 inch in a month, that's impressive.

The chances of a GT growing from 1.5" to 4" in 30 days is zero.
Sorry, calling BS on that one.

Also, power feeding a GT will generally just end up with your GT having gastrointestinal issues. Not a good idea. If the genetics are there, and water quality & diet are sound, which it sounds like they are, then your fish will grow & mature in due time.

GT's are awesome fish i want another but slow growth was not an issue and I'm not an expert but it grew insanely fast in my thirty gal but slowed to a crawl n my twohundred twenty gallon so I moved it back to keep the growth rate up... It worked lol don't know why but have one educated guess lol
