The LFS where we get all our fish has wonderful people who actually know what they're dealing with and talking about. I don't think I'd get the same quality of service from one of those large chain pet stores. They have a 24 hour fish guarantee that if your fish dies in the first 24 hours you bring it back, with your receipt and a water sample and they'll help you figure out what did your fish in. I just can't see large chain pet stores putting that much effort into ensuring future business. The girl that usually waits on us when we're getting fish does her research on what she's selling and can answer any questions we have. I believe we have referred her to MFK for help with the information that she can't find elsewhere.

not to get off the topic of morons at petshops, but you'll find them anywhere and everywhere. Doesn't matter what kind of store, office, business it is you will find them. I work in the medical field and anyone else that does can tell you that most patients are morons with no common sense. You will run into dumb people where ever you go but some of those kids in the pet store may be trying to learn as much as they can. I worked in an LFS through college and learned more from the customers then the people i worked with. Then again there are a lot of idiots that just don't give a damn.

. ulstrasound tech, med assistant, office manager. I'm getting tired of this stuff though. These people drive me insane. sometimes i just have to insult them. what part are you in?

I've worked at a pet store where my boss has told me to put baby angels in with silvers, even after I told him, and showed him why they weren't compatible. He still told to put them in the tank "temporarily", BS. He was an idiot, I told him to go play in traffic with the rest of the morons

I worked at Petco way back in the day. It was fun because my coworkers all knew there stuff. I venture in them now and then and try to help lead customers to make good choices when I can.

Sadly, this 'idiot fish keeper' mentality isn't limited to pet shops. I've seen worse in the zoo world. My favorite is a guy who used to shut 1/2 of the lights off on reef displays because (his words) "Too much light makes the algae grow too fast. This way I won't have to clean as much". Same guy used to run his protein skimmers low so he wouldn't have to clean them. Like Joel said, they're all over.
