This is something that has been bugging me for a while and I need an answer...Why do some of you spend so much time and money on amazing aquariums but put them in the garage or a back room or an unfinished basement or other places they just don't seem to belong. For me If I'm putting the time and money into an awesome aquarium it's gonna be the center piece of my living room or family room, somewhere I love to spend time and the guests in my house are sure to spot it. An aquarium is living art and I just can't put it out of site.

Now I understand to each his own and if that is where you want your tank then that is fine but I just can't find the reasoning.

And just so that you know I'm not full of crap.

most people with true monster tanks put them in their basement in case of flooding most likely... all my tanks are in my room though and i spend most of my time there

In some cases, many of the members have so many tanks, they can't keep them all in one room. I have 7 at the moment. In other cases, the tank may be too large to have on a supported floor. A basement floor is going to be a lot safer.

Other than that, I really don't recall any posts of photos of tanks being hidden. Well, except Cameron hiding them in the basement from his wife lol :)

I have a reef in my living room but I keep the 'monsters' in the basement. I think a lot of it is that people would rather have big heavy tanks on concrete slab in the basement rather than worrying about it falling through the floor.

I don't have big tanks yet, but I think that for some it has to do with maintaince. For bigger tanks, it gets a lot more messy and wet.. and then there's the size factor.. like in the pic you have up.. I don't think a 500g + tank is gonna find enough space in there... Idk .. just assuming ..

Many reasons. Can't get thru the door. Other family don't like tanks. Maintenance. Multi tank syndrome. Etc.

You see a lot of big tanks in basements and garages because the weight of monster tanks is too much for a second floor.

edit: wolfsburgfanatic beat me to it.
