Why do reptile owners get this stereotype???

Because its perceived to be a counter culture/alternativey type pet. Much like how someone with a bunch of tattoos or piercings is seen as an irreverent stoner with something to prove/projecting image of edginess to the rest of society.
Personally I loooove herps, not really into the THC tho. I have enough trouble focusing sober.

I'm gonna ligten up my reefer and take a stroll to score some frozen rats
for my Burmese and redtail.

Has anyone here read the Lizard King? it is about how the reptile industry was started by drug smugglers and how one of them was even the inspiration for Scarface. the reptile industry was founded by shady people.

That and most people that keep herps do like to chill from time to time. I know a guy that has his stash in his viper tank....

I am a musician, covered in tattoos and have facial piercings and i used to keep and breed reptiles you should have seen the disbelief in some peoples faces when they found out i don't smoke weed.

Interesting....I was thinking that it all started with that Cheech and Chong movie where they had an iguana smoking a fatty.

Another stereotype: Snake keepers are hillbillys. I guess I get it seeing the vast amout of rednecks that keep ball pythons so they can feed them stupid stuff and video tape it.

I knew someone who tried growing it in their whites dumpy tree frog's terrarium. Got about 5 inches and died they said.
