Why do some people think dechlorinator is bad?

I am not telling anyone they shouldn't use it. I am just saying I never have and never will. If it makes people more comfortable, then they should go ahead and use it.
 
I dont use dechlor at home I have a private high quality water supply.Its a deep well in an unpopulated watershed area.


At work I take care of 2 small tanks with pulic water and always use a conditioner.
 
When you say you work for a water treatment plant it sets you up as an expert. When an "expert" gives his opinion it carries a lot of weight. I'm saying I think you're wrong and the "advice" you've given is going to cause someone a lot of problems. What I wanted you to do was show this thread to the plant chemist and get an "offical" answer.
 
i love the stuff i use Amquil and i use to use to things from tetra wich also worked well
 
Ok, why would I have to take that to him to show? Apparently if you read my post, they don't think it is a good idea. That is why we have to take the percautionary steps around lakes,ponds,streams, etc. I am just saying I haven't and won't use any type of medications in my tank.

Meds and dechlorinators are different. I really don't like meds either.

If we are flushing out a pipe before we connect it for customers to use around a pond or lake we have to use dechlorinator tablets. I guess some one before us found out the hard way about running water straight into a pond. But yeah, I definitely don't use any dechlorinator. Even if you have to keep smaller totes of water and just do more frequent water changes it is definitely the way to go.

So... Your plant requires you to use a dechlorinator when dealing with customers because it's the safest course of action BUT you don't at home?? Is that right? IF you had a nephew that lived in, say Memphis, and he wanted to set up an aquarium would you tell him to use either a dechlorinator or a chloramine neutralizer?

I have another question for you, if you'll permit. Does your plant add ammonia to the dechlorinated water making chloramines? If so, what does your plant recommend to neutralize the chloramines?
