why do the people who generally have koi tattoos...

I say who cares what other people put on their bodies. I see people with Koi tatts all the time and never once thought they better keep fish. It's their body I could care less what they put on it really. I think to many people now days are involved way to much in what other people are doing. Live your life and do what makes you happy. Just my .02
 
I got mine before I kept fish. The chinese legends intrigue me, and it fit well with what was going on at that point in my life.

Fits even better now that I keep fish too.

But yes people get tattoos for all reasons, some for the appreciation of art, some for meaning, some to remember some one or some thing by... Basically endless reasons... So about the op's question...i've seen people with great white shark tattoos and flowers... Doesnt mean they own a shark or a florist...
 
now if u have a synodontis on ur ankle like the ladie at our fish club then u miight be an actual fish keeper lol. that and i plan on getting a halfbeak on my hand. no legend there. and i dont keep them lol
