Why do you like kok on your FH?

The Nuchual hump aka the kok, is a sign of dominance in fish. It is kind of like a buck having a huge rack. Personally I don't like the absolutely enormous koks, but I do like the large heads. It makes them seem more powerful. Unless the fish is a female, I don't like the way Flowerhorns look with out a kok.

i think lungfish are hideous and disgusting but you dont see me starting a thread bashing them. to each his own, people shouldnt have to explain their tastes to you

I like a small golf ball look, I think its cruel when the kok seems to impair their vision/ability to move.

Always amusing to me when in the FH forum, people bash on them. Ugh they are hybrids, ugh they have tumors...go to a different section and look at the fish you like.

Im going to go to other sections and ask people why they like those fish ha.

To those who really dont like the kok and think its iccky..then what would youre perfect fh look like? a female?

Enormous kok's don't appeal to me either. If my mine end up with a hump the size of an average midas I will be happy! I think some people might use this thread to bash fh's/hybrids but I don't think that is your intention. I couldn't ask for a more fun fish to own than a flowerhorn!

It's part of the fish's genetics. Not just flowerhorns but the purebred fish that were used to create them to. It's the same reason as if I keep midas I want it to have a big head. Fish with big lumps on their heads are usually the best glass bangers in my experience. If I'm going to keep flowerhorns I want to keep the nicest/best quality ones. Watching a flowerhorn grow a giant nuchal hump is part of raising them. It has a lot to do with genetics but the better condition you keep them in the bigger their head is going to grow. It is rewarding watching them grow a huge head because you know you're doing something right.

I agree, I also think it looks cool, but to a point. I don't like it when it takes away from the fish, or the fish has trouble swimming.

I once only had pure fish, until i meant cam, then everything changed. Now i have a lot of flowerhorns, they are pretty cool. I love watching them grow because never two are the same, and they are very active. If people don't like the flowerhorns then don't come to this forum, i only post about flowerhorns here and pure fish in the south and central american cichlid forum.

I recently just started liking flowerhorns. I don't like those huge massive KOKs but a regular sized one is cool with me.
