why do you need a BIO-wheel?

Its always best to have your air stone on the other side of the tank from your filter pick up.ALL HOB filters work poorly on partially filled tanks....not just the E400.

listen man youve got an aqua clear and a whisper and your buying a canister and now you want a e400? I hope you bought stock petsmart cause they are gunna have field day when you come in. Why not stick to one kind and then you know how it works and how to fix it and how to clean it, instead of having every brand in the industry to worry about. And you could go and buy bulk of what you need and save versus buying several of different kinds. On a big water change day you might have to go to several stores just to find all the brands of filters you need. Not to mention your gunna run out of room and your tanks gunna look more like a science expiriment than a turtle tank.

I know your new and theres alot of options but my advice would be try to keep it simple, or your gunna be chasing your tail all the time.

btw your turtle looks great and good luck

and if your tank is patialy filled i would stick with aqua clear cause they have more power and will draw the water up faster and proccess more water. They are more of a workhorse and thats what you need with a turtle.

Sorry fisheatfish; all the things I ask for are not gonna happen for awhile..I just wanted to get ready years before it's gonna happen.
i may ask alot of questions as if I'm tweeking-out but I just have to learnlearnlearn!

i don't know what this e400 is but I have a aquaclear that I had in the tank..i noticed that it gets really weak in my tank. i tried it in a tnak with full water and it was rushing out water like crazy.
the whisper in-tank i like, it flows really fast.
and I am thinking of getting the XP1 this weekend. online(it's much cheaper!)

i've seen a eheim filter on the other tank in the house and thought I can lern from that, but I barely get to see that tank..

thanks about the compliment about Cola!

With this type of tank set up if you cannot get a canister filter (hobs don't have the lift required) then add a UGF with power heads, it will add greatly to your biofiltration at fairly low cost, a fluidized sand bed filter will also work.

UGF..undergravel filter?
i don't use substrate though, and wolf said that UGF are the worst option in bare bottom turtle tanks.

You have a sound plan grasshopper...

The powerhead we talked about will turbocharge your canister and keep that 40b crystal clean even with a turtle in it. An E400 is my abreviation for the Emporer 400 HOB filter. If your tank was full that would be all you needed but with a partially filled tank the turbocharged canister is by far your best option. Don't forget the pre-filter on the powerhead either...that will save you a TON of work cleaning out the canister.

oh o.k. i filled up alot..11"(out of 16") but is that too low for a emperor?

yup i'll get a sponge

It would work but the splashing sound would drive you nuts....

would the GP/H change too?
i have to think of something..maybe like a board infront of the filter so the water quitely slides down to the tank..
