Don't feed him so much. 3-4 in two weeks?

He needed fattening up. He's down to one a week/every five days depending on size of feed now. :)

Hey Jessica, sometimes they just need extra time to settle in. Not hiding is a sign of stress and he just might be a little freaked out.

Thanks. he's had three weeks to settle in with no handling and no disturbenses (except to feed and pick up soiled bedding and change water). He's feeding great and active, I don't think he's stressed, but thanks for the help anyway :)

A trick for "sensitive" snakes that I've found to be pretty effective is to literally fill the bottom of the cage with balled up newspaper sheets. I know it sounds a little unorthodox but it works - it basically forces them into feeling much more secure, regardless of whether or not they choose to use the hides that you provided. Over the course of the following weeks, you gradually remove the paper until the tank is clear and the snake is settled in.

Also make sure that the tank isn't in any high-traffic areas, loud music, etc. I was once helping a guy out with a snake that wouldn't eat and after exploring EVERY point of failure with the setup plus a trip to the vet, I found out that the tank was set up in the living room sitting right next to the subwoofer of a home theatre system. HELLO?!

Lol my snake is fine. He's feeding fine, and currently coming upto a shed. He's putting on some needed weight (hence the 3-4 feeds). I agee with him feeling secure, as I know what an insecure snake looks like and an insecure one, I just wanted to know if there was any reaosn for him not hiding. LOL. Thanks for all you help though, much appreciated :)

Hey jess any chance of some pics? There a nska ethat id love to keep but my mom wouldn't let me.

Yeah should have some tomorrow or the day after.

Sorry for the bad quality (BF took 'em, explains it all LOL) and bare in mind he has dulled as he is coming upto a shed, its amazing how much he has dulled, plus the camera never seems to get his good colours, once hes shed I will post more. His dads a salmon hypo and he does have alot of pink blushing on his sides which the camera did not catch (like I said it also dulled due to shedding). As you can see (for those that thought) he is definately..NOT overfed :)

That's only like what? 2 feedings a week? Um, it is actually less stressful for snakes.

Like my Spotted Python is way too big for a pinkie, but not big enough for a fuzzie yet. So I just feed her a pinkie every 3-4 days; her breeder told me to feed her two pinkies a sitting, but she get really stressed out when she does. Hopefully she will be big enough for a fuzzie next week! :headbang2

Technically, my boa constrictor should be eating a 300g-400g rat every 2 weeks, however I am planning to go on a large scale hobby and it is just easier for me to give him a 150g every week. His previous owner did the same thing since it was easier to keep track of all the snakes that way.

Thanks mate. We all know our animals best, and if I'm honest, the most important thing when you've got a new snake is feeding it up. New aquried animals stress so easy, you want them to put as much weight as possible on incase they DO stop feeding :)

wow you are feeding him way to much if u ask me.Do you have any pics?
