:irked::irked: I'm sorry but I need to vent..:irked::irked:

Lately is seems that more people are getting fish they either have very little knowledge of they just get it because its "cool". Almost anything you wish to know about most of the LARGE fish that we keep, is here someplace on this site and easy to find. Seeing statements like "I don't have time or don't have the patience to read the whole thread" is just garbage. Are you going to "have the time" to prepare food,do water changes, clean filters, do water tests?

Feeding, talk about a can of worms ,lots of diff.views. For me, I feed my fish every day. I don't feed them till they look like balloons with fins,just a nice smooth somewhat round belly. Also alternate the amount and type of food from day to day and sometimes I do skip one day. Why would someone get a fish that grows fast and large like a RTC then ask if I only feed it once a week will it grow more slowly so I can keep it longer in my 100 gallon tank and then get cranky when someone tells them the facts. If you don't plan on providing a fish with correct food and housing FROM THE BEGINNING, DON'T GET IT.. The plan of" I will buy it now as a baby and upgrade later" is just not good. Situations change ,money gets spent elsewhere and the fish is stuck in a small tank.

Another problem,,I will buy it ,keep it for a while then sell it when it gets to big for my tank,, ,you hope ,, not always easy to move a 10 or 12 inch fish..

This is a GREAT site to ask questions,share experiences and info and to learn, I just wish more people would make better decisions about what fish they try to keep.

Ok I am done now......

Well said!!!! I have had that same gripe about select people on this web-site for a long time. There is nothing that I need to ad other than to agree 100% with your views on this subject.

I agree with some of your points and such and people are stubborn, but i recommend a deep breath and some extra thought before you make a post where you rant so heavily (as in not making the thread). Reasons being either one this will start a back and forth argument between people which will get this thread closed or two you'll just get passed by. My 2 cents whatever its worth to you.

i agree because some people on here get one and ask us what tank size and stuff and then it dies beause they did do there research! :nilly:

I agree, although regulating the feeding isn't necessarily bad for the fish, expecially bottom feeders. In the wild they probably eat considerably less then we in the aquaria trade feed them. And that power can greatly be used to our advantage. For example i've cut back on feeding my 14" TSN and have been feeding my baby (3") RTC twice daily so he grows big enough to put in the 250g with the TSN without any canabalism. But research and resourses for the fish' life are essential.

Completely agree with you lizard,i for one couldnt raise a fish to a good size and then sell it,whats the point,just so you can say that you have had one?
Id love a tsn or rtc but i know i cant keep one so as much as i could keep one or both for a while i couldnt bring my self to sell it or probably have trouble selling it so it would end up living in cramped conditions,which is obviously what happens to quite a few people.

Yes, I said that. Guess you are calling me out. I wanted personal experience rather than a sticky. And I did read the first 3-4 pages on that thread and there were talking about other things. And also that thread is about 20 pages long..And yes, I do have time to take care of my fishes.
So, I guess you were mislead.
