If I remember correctly clown fish actually have the ability to change sex!

This is true, the dominant fish of a group becomes the female, the next dominant becomes the male while the rest remain sexless. If the female dies, the male changes sex to replace and the next dominant fish fills the male position. Fish can go from unsexed to male or female, male to female, but not from female to male. Sex among clownfish is based on heirarchy, and because of this fact, a non dominant fish may remain sexless its entire life.

Its all about getting to the store first.

I would assume most fish buyers would pick out the largest ones in a group, now if the species is dimorphic, the males would tend to be larger, now if the batch has 100 fry and the first few customers gets the larger ones, and the stores sells 50 fry..... then the remaining fry would tend to be mostly females....

Then you come into the store :D

Few creatures as complex as a fish actually reproduce asexually, most of the true asexual reproducers that high on the evolutionary tree I know of are lizards.

And yes, it was the five I bought that were all female. Just got back from the LFS and traded them in for a bigger sized Texas, which looks male to me THIS TIME. Statistically speaking, I should NOT play the lottery as I appear extremely unlucky. Still can't believe that out of 5 fish there wasn't a single male...

Some species of Grouper change sex after many years or several spawns. Females change to males at this point. Some frogs also do it if there are a number of females without any males present. The females will then change to males. Nature is wild!
