It's a double edged sword in many ways.

We have the most homeless people.

We also have the largest population of "undetected" foreign drivers, gardeners, roofers, masons, pickers and plumbers.

It's the sort of society that segregates into classes and groups and wars over everything.

Game theory says that eventually one interest will rule.
The richest of the landed aristocracy rules over the poor and the debtors.
Everyone else swims between in relative freedom.
It's no mystery if you've read Dickens.
BTW most of the aristocracy was always in debt from keeping up with the Tudors etc, and did a lot of thieving.
This seems to still be on the rise.
Not the occupation of gentlefolk, be they debtors, aristocrats, or fishmongers.

I was a debtor until recently.
I paid it all off and now I am landed gentry.
But having paid, am not wealthy in cash.

Just a happy fishmonger in a bungalow. ;)
