i told my friend who works at sea life park about HR669 and he laughed. he told me that they have been trying to pass this bill since 2000 and each year they fail because the gov. will not have it (some of them probably own pets).

kind of like if a very rich and powerful group was trying to outlaw cigarettes every single year, they end up looking like an annoying fat kid who keeps asking his health-freak mother for ice cream every hour with a different approach to the same question each time.

it would be funny if every member of the supreme court owns their own sort of pet outside of cats or dogs, they would be hard pressed to find any reason to ban them.

but anyway my friend says this bill is OLD news (new name) and wonders why every forum is getting worried THIS time when this bill has come around every single year for the past 9 years as if nobody was paying attention to what was going on in the last decade???????

This is very interesting. Anyone else hear of this? Link to a prior bill/incarnation of said bill?

when i come home again i will start to search and source any prior similar bills. they should be archived somewhere.

it wouldn't be called hr669 though. my friend explained the names have changed and the bill slightly tweaked each time with different levels of congress being reached until rejected. he says sometimes the bill will reach almost the last phase before approval and then get slammed there, and sometimes it drowns out upon the first proposal.

It still pays for people to be diligent regarding their rights to keep pets or anything else for that matter! The reason for certain bills to keep getting submitted is because the opponent group is thought to be weak or not paying attention and the proponent thinks they have a good chance of getting it passed!

Your friend is so smart....lol Do some of your OWN reading and devise your OWN opinion :) Will make you look like less of a messenger of false information.

Here is last years. Well 2007 to 2008. Bills last 2 years.

I had one for 2005-2006. To much looking an lost the link. Each year from 2005 this has come up though.

Could not find to much father back about a wide spread ban. Just different states with bills dealing with problems just for them. Or the bills dealing with say 1 or 2 species. If I find the one for 05-06 again I'll post it.

Yeah, but while cigarettes aren't outlawed its now illegal to smoke indoors (at least in MD & DC) , cigarettes taxes have been increased 2 bucks in the past 2 years and every dvd and tv channel runs the same stupid anti smoking ads. Bottom line is that the annoying fat kid is gradually getting his way.

Even if the bill fails to pass again (and I hope/pray it will) it doesn't mean we are out of the woods. We could still see parts of the bill inacted into state laws if we don't take action and fight this now. Our side needs to be heard.

Environmental and environmentalist issues have a much higher chance of success with our current group in congress than they may have in previous years. Many of the majority have won their seats with very "green" focused campaigns. Anything that smacks of being a good cause for environmentalism, even some of the more radical ideas like this one, has a very good chance of succeeding. That is probably why everyone is so worried NOW. ??

Thats how bills like this get passed. Ask yourself this. Would you rather we make our voices heard that this bill is a bad idea or be silent and let them think its what everyone wants so go ahead and pass it? Sorry but your friends an idiot. Thinking this bill will never pass because the ones in the past haven't passed so why worry or speak up, is exactly whats going to help this bill succeed in the future.
