Why Is It So Taboo For Someone Telling How Much They Bought A Fish For.

I will be as honest as I possibly can

I think that "most" people that collect rare fish are in it as a collector and a large part of that is ego.

If they tell you how much they paid for a fish that not only makes it seem more accessible and less rare but it also runs the risk of them being scrutinized for overpaying. Either of which could deflate their egos.

There are many people that are just truly humble and would not rather brag as well

A few reasons off the top of my head. 1) People might be embarassed by the amount they spent on a fish. 2) They might want people to admire their fish for its awesomeness and not its price tag. 3) It can accidently sound like bragging when talking about spending so much on a fish and people want to remain modest. 4) Not really anyone elses business besides the buyer and seller.
This.:iagree:

Oh I agree as well to all stated by Madding.
But see where I am coming from. Say I bought a used Honda Civic from another member. And I posted pics for all to see how happy I was to pick it up. Another member asks "Oh BTW, How much did you buy it for?" I would tell then no big deal. I wouldn't think in my head "oh i better not say cause I don't want to brag, or Hey its none of your damn business." Just on courtesy, I would just plain out inform that person with the truth and that would be that. Not all this tip toe controversy about price. It is possible the member asking about the price is wanting to buy a Honda Civic themselves. Or maybe one is just curious about what something like that costs.

I usually don't mind telling a price. In the least I will PM them and just not answer in the thread. Perhaps more people are doing that then you realize, and it just looks like they're all being ignored (unless you yourself have had it happen to you multiple times).
This.:iagree:
I agree with you guys on this one.

I personally don't mind telling people if I got a great deal on certain fish, but I'd rather not say how much I paid for certain other fish because I might get flamed for how good/bad the price was.

Id tell anyone how much i paid for most of my fish. But when it comes to my red diablo aro i choose to keep it private. Why? Im not sure, maybe fear off ppl thinking i overpaid. Maybe bc i dont care wht ppl pay for their fish so why should they care about mine??? Good topic

i tell people with no problem. it isnt a big deal and ill even offer info on how for them to get it cheap.
I got my 2010 focus last year for a screaming deal and people askl me all the time what i got it for and ill tell no problem. It may not be someone business, but it can be a courteous thing to atleast give a reasonable answer even if only in the ball park.

Also who cares if someone flames you on a message board? i Dont know a single other person on this site and could really careless if anyone thinks im a tard or otherwise.
Chances are high i will never meet them and as such they can live in their own little worlds

I dont get the wife comment either. Seems a little over exagerated
