Why is my chiclid turning grey ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Beautiful tank and Fish!

Two separate issues: could be an ammonia spike from the tank cycling, in which case a large (75%) water change will help, or it could be the aggression from the other tretocephalus, and more fish could spread that out, but not necessarily intraspecific aggression like could be happening here..

Please do not add any more fish at this time!

I count at least 14 fish in your tank, a mix of Mbuna and Aulonocara (Peacock) from Lake Malawi and the Tanganyikan cichlid (Frontosa?) I would rehome or return the Tanganyikan cichlid, it will not do well in your tank with boisterous cichlids.

Can you post the dimensions of your tank in Length x Width X Height? A 65 G tank can be various dimensions so hopefully it is at least 48 inches long.

Cycling a tank is different than what filter you are using. Do you test your water parameters for ammonia, nitrite, pH and nitrate? If so, please post the test results as well as which brand and type test kit you are using.

They look to be neolamprologus tretocephalus - Your probably going to have to move some fish around, it's all a balancing act to see what combo works and it might never with the stock you've chosen.

How did you cycle it agian?

My tanganyikan chiclid that once was bright white and black striped with a little blue on the fins just yesterday has turned a grey color and his stripes are fading & is also alone in the top corner of the tank while all of my other fish are in the middle swimming around !! Please help !! There’s 2 of them in my tank and only 1 is turning grey while the other is still very bright with its color
