I have an 8 gallon bio-cube. http://www.oceanicsystems.com/products/biocube.php#

I unplugged the filter because i was emptying the tank to add sand. (there was nothing living in the tank)
I then re-plugged it back in... a few days later.. and now there is this very load noise... sounds like a motor
i tried turning it on and off (unplugging and re-plugging)
still very load disruptive noise
any ideas on how to fix it?

That is a very common problem when using sand. The sand gets into the motor and burns it up. To make it stop take it completly apart and clean everything, making sure you get every peice of sand out of the motor. Then place some type of sponge around the intake when you put it back in the tank so that it does nto happen again. Or just use gravel and never worry about burning up another
filter.

its the sand i have the same problem and i love ur betta!

sounds like sand in the motor.. not a big deal.. if its still making noise yer ok.. its when the noise and the water stop that you have a problem..
just clean out the motor and be sure to let the sand settle before you turn the filter on

thanks
and its not actually my betta
i dont own it
wish i did

i already tried washing out the motor
still makes the noise

i unplugged to filter until everything settles
then ill plug it back in and wash it again

If you're not worried about losing a bit of beneficial bacteria, I would take the filter outside and spray it with a hose (or you can do it within the warm confines of your home at a powerful sink). Goal is to dislodge any particles that are stuck inside. I had that with small bits of gravel in my filter, but I ended up just shaking it violently to get rid of all the bits and pieces.

agreed. its a must when you use sand use a sponge over the intake. when i had the problem, i took it apart and cleaned every piece with a disposable toothbrush, then plugged it in. shaking violently works great too.

thanks
