I've got a little giant 3 as my return pump...3/4in flexible pipe to 3/4 pvc pipe as my return. When I run the pump everything works great, flow rate is great in my tank I can see all the poo and left over food immediately thrown up into the water column from the bottom of the tank. Literally this pump seems like a perfect match for my set-up....only I hate the pump being on and havent run it for more then a few minutes due to the amount of noise coming from the pump. I have placed a 1 1/2 inch sponge under the pump to reduce vibrations but it hasn't helped with the noise. The only thing I can think is that the pump is at a 90* to the sump....there is a 90* elbow connecting the sump and the pump. I had to do this due to space in my stand. Would taking out the 90 and having the pump in-line with the sump rid the noise? Is it my pump? ARG....dont know what to do...I cant run my sump right now, I hate the amount of noise and my gf will kill me.....please help

From what I've read, Little Giant pumps are notorious for being loud. They are good pumps tho, if you can deal with the noise.

Is yours submersed?

get another girl friend............

Unfortunately pumps make noise. Put your hand on the pump and push down if that gets quieter then you need to bolt the pump to the stand. Your stand is like a speaker box and all vibrations are amplified. You gota find the vibration and correct it. Some times the sump vibrates too. I put my whole sump and pump on some old carpet. Other pumps I just bolted to the stand. One of my pumps I actually suspended in the air just a 1/4" above the stand using a shorter return line. Just move the pump around until is gets quieter then figure a way to keep it in that position. It's way more work than getting a new girl friend that's why it's option #2 (smile)

I have a Little Giant 5md-c and found that I could substantially reduce souund and vibration by not having it hard pipe connected to system.

I seen someones large pump under a stand and they had the pump on a Folded towel... looked like a great idea if the rattling is the problem. The towel looked to be folded to about 4" thick. Never done it so dont know if its a good or bad idea.

Oh and I dont see how taking the elbow away will reduce the sound (dont think it will make a diff).
