Why is my tank so cloudy!?!?!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I didn't say it was unhelpful I said unnessisary, as it is not NESSISARY, ever. Nessisary meaning MUST have.

It is only ever benificial if it is organic matter specifically pigment molecules that brown the water, which we have no idea if it is, it could be sand particulate, or it could be percipitated calcum, or it could be bacteria/protazoan/etc in which case they will die... then rot... then produce more ammonia and other organic wastes... then cycle gets worse... but thats just my opinion. I would say skimmer is the way to go in this instance not another expencive device when he hasn't even tryed his skimmer yet.

Yes, a bucket dip doesnt work for ich, I was being somewhat general, but it was more about Medications then hypodips, I should have explained myself better
It how ever does not take 4 weeks at hypo to kill ich, it takes a little over 1 week for ich to be completely removed from the fish in Hypo and for them to be dead, on the other hand it takes 4-5 weeks of fallow tank for the rest of the ich to die off the display tank never needs to be hypo.

Eggs are not released into the water column, they are on the sandbed, the Theronts are the water column stage, and are free swimming, therefore nearly impossible to remove via any form of filtration. Though skimmer would help reduce their numbers, no idea if the micron socks would make a difference or not to be honnest.
i do realize the theronts are the free swimming stage the theronts are able to be removed thru filter sock, uv filter ,ozone, a bucket dip imo would need to freshwater provide nothing more than temp relief, i was not suggestig hypo in the display i suggested a hospital tank

I am actually away right now so I will have a friend of mine put the carbon in the tank and start the skimmer.

In this case, I really ment a medicated bucket dip (copper, or other meds etc), as you are right, there would only be minimal improvments form a freashwater or hypo dip.

I'm sorry I must have misread what you posted, but non the less the hypo only needs to be maintained for around 10-12 days max. This is because the adults have a maximum stay on the fish of 7 days, then drop off. At this point, in hypo salinity the adults are not able to reproduce, therefore Ich life cycle ends almost immediatly after. Though this is assuming you only add fish to the QT tank... if you add water the theronts in the water could infect the fish as much as 2 days later, hence why you need to have them at hypo for more then a week, as there could be some that attach later resulting in a absolute minimum of 9 days hypo before all the adults drop off.

They can be with the socks? That's good, I guess it mite depend on the mesh size of the filter sock as well... I realize UV/ozone will kill them as well, but I never advocate using them for a bunch of reasons, my biggest one is, I/others spend a ton of money a year dosing my tanks with live phytoplancton and pods (food for corals/filter feeders), and these filters would just kill them removing the value of adding them in the first place.

That said, my tanks are also sudo natural... and have very very little artificial filtration, which I wouldn't recomend to others, as failure to do it correctly is a very expencive/painful mistake. I have spent countless hours researching and prepairing for this style of system, so it's not something that can be jumped into. My systems rely heavily on "enhanced" hatural filtrations, via large quanties of micro-macro detravors, micro-macro algeas to absorb nutrients, and a true DSB, with all kinds of micro-macro life in it. The only "arificial" filtration that is connected to my systems at all times is a Algea Scrubber, which isn't really artificial its just natural stuff set up to work faster haha. So as a result, no I don't have crystal clear water, but at the same time I show excellent coral growth, and if my filter feeders grew any faster I would have to remove them lol.
