why is my tank so dang cloudy???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This sounds normal

Just leave it alone and don't change anything and it will regulate itself within a week or two. Sometimes they're in the cycling stage water will become cloudy and by messing with it (changing filter and water) you're actually making it worse and worse.

Ammonia is lowest as in 0?? Generally if you are cycling with fish a cloudy tank indicates a buildup of of bad toxins. I have never heard of or seen a tank turning cloudy cause you didn't wash it:confused: What is it dust??? If so this should be taken care of by your mechanical filtration in no time. And water changes will not hurt your filter unless you put water with chlorine through without first treating that water. What I do is turn off filters change water and add conditioner. Then let sit for about 45 minutes and turn filters back on. I have never killed off my benificial bacteria doing this. If you don't have chlorine or chloramine in your water than you do not even need to worry about water conditioner.

it sounds like an algae bloom to me too. i just scrubbed every ince of the tank did two 50 percent water changes in a week and it cleared up. is your tank near a window or in direct sunlight? i left my blinds open for a few days and the bright morning sun caused my algae to get out of control.

also did you rinse the gravel or sand? sand is worse for this because the dust is finer and settles less that gravel would.
