Why is my tiger oscar losing his color?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yea Aquanero is right. . .sorry, i didnt mean to jump the gun and just say 90% of all oscars lose their colour, iv never actually owned one, but all of my buddies have had a few each and this happened to all of theirs, including the skew lip thing, in all the petshops around here, i have never seen a decent adult Oscar, although my uncles Oscar is now about 30cm and it is this pitch black body with this magnificent ford focus orange streaking through, its a magnificent specimen, i just assumed that this oscar is one of the 10%. Sorry for jumping to conclusions. Listen to the pro's ;-)

there aren't a lot of nice adult specimens that you see out there because unfortunately it is very rare for an oscar to receive proper care, so they are usually deformed and have bad HITH because they were raised in horrible conditions

it depends on the diet also...i have 2 tiger oscar fishes..for a few months the pattern became brighter...but i changed their diet as i planed...what i observed is how ever oscars are eating pallets or worm...but i changed their diet to live worm wich i got from the soil of our farm...beef heart and once a week liver...and also fruit...amazingly my oscars love really fruit...specially water melon and cherry...can you belive that? their colour is really boost and darker...specialy their pattern are back relatively to normal colour...and i m sure if i keep eating them by such fruit above...the pattern will back to the original colour ore even better..how ever the dark background is much effective in shade colour enhance...guys thats my own experience and i have no documented proof fot that...

I would give the Oscar some Krill treats.

This was my O pre Krill each meal

Welcome to MFK M meti ,
I think the OP has this figured out by now, if the fish is even still alive today. This thread is 10 years old.
