Hey Frends,

I got a big 150g aquarium at my house, with the ambition of owning a big silver arowana.
I donno whether this is the right place for this question. Moderators, please change, if you feel its required.

I bot 10 starter goldfish and 10 starter guppies, and put them into the tank for cycling, (as they were just starter fish, I did not acclimate them properly.)

Parameters are good
External Filter running, Aerators running.
Temp – 28C,
Ammonia – 0.1ppm
Nitrate - 0
pH – 7.5 to 8.0
Feeding only once a day.

But I notice from the past few days, my goldfish are dying, yday when I checked, one goldfish died, today when I checked another goldfish died. Both got stuck to the suction area of the pump.

Why is this happening to my goldfish.
1. Are they not liking the heated water ?
2. Is the pH not suitable for them ?
3. Is this not to be taken a worry, as they are feeder fish and would mostly have diseases with them ?
4. Should I increase the feeding to twice a day ?
5. Will I face this problem with the arowana also when I get him ?

Water temp but also goldfish can't handle current well and they get tired and die if you have proper filters on that 150g and while you have a good size tank, still way small for a big arowana. I'm sure you can and will try but a fish that hits 3' won't b very happy in a 18" wide tank

All true. I dont think he is cycled yet. I would have gotten to his tank size next! Gonna need a 240 or so to house a big aero! I wish I could raise one in my 150! Mine is 24" wide but only 48" long. A full grown aro would like something closer to 96"x36".

How long has the tank been running?

hey chefke, the tank is running from only 10 days.

tank dimensions - 70" long, 30"high, 16" wide
so, should i switch off the filters for reducing the currents ??
its not that a big aro that i m getting, a max length of 12 - 15" only.

aro will be only 15 " max, not so big

now please leave the tank size alone. i feel this tank is enuf for me atleast for now.
i need to noe the reason y fish are dying day by day.

Just wondering what kind of Aro your looking at? are we talking feeder goldfish? Why do you have the PH so high? What kind of filtration?

I thought the tank was too new!! It takes three to four weeks for your tank to cycle from scratch. Be patient and keep testing the water until you have zero Ammonia, zero Nitrite and positive Nitrate. I must warn you. The aro you are planing is already to large for your tank. Considor another fish while you find a much bigger tank. The aro will bash itself on your glass trying to turn already. You need twice the tank you have. The aro will grow 12+ inches in 6 months!

NTS is killing your fish. New Tank Syndrome. The Ammonia. Your tank is great dimensions for Discus but terrible for any Aro!

Chefken calm down he was asking for advice and help. no reason to yell at the guy. He could have never had a tank before, try helping people get better knowledge before you go off on them, its actions like that that cause people to steer away from the hobby.
