? Why MFK ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I hearts the DIY stuff

Most important thing I've learned is filtration. Nowhere else preaches filtration as much as this site and my fish are much better off for it. The LFS around here thought it was insanity to run an FX5 on a 180. "That's far too much filtration, way overkill". And now there's 3 FX5'S on there :D.

One thing MFK cant really do is help with stock compatibility. Easily one of the most common threads is will "X work with X". You can only get a compilation of peoples past experiences all of which seem to be night and day different. Stocking is something (for the most part) that you just have to experiment with yourself.

i think having this attitude is what gets people frustrated. how many times does one need to hear this won't work but some random person who did it for 2 weeks comes along and said it worked for me but by week 3 it didn't work (and we'll never know cuz they never come back and say it) i think instead of saying yeah..it can work, all variables needs to brought up (tank size, filtration, stock size, aquascaping etc etc). That's my biggest gripe, 20 people with first hand experience saying something won't work but people want to quote the 1 person that it worked for

Most threads I see regarding compatibility have 5-10 different scenarios that are all different involving the same fish. There's obvious situations that wont work that involve tank size, but my post refers more to stocking issues such as (flagtail with bichir, ray etc related to slime coat sucking) those threads are pretty divided and you'll only find out if you try. Some people have luck mixing jardini with other fish, some don't, some people can cohab wolf fish, others aren't so lucky. If we all had the same tank and filtration and same species of fish we'd still have wildly different stories of compatibility.

I just enjoy giving advice about things I do know about, and taking advice about thing that I have no clue about. For every area where my knowledge is lacking, there will be someone here who can help me fill that void.

Oh, and I am obsessed with fish.

I mostly started coming here to help me get what I wanted fastest and smartest, as well as learning more about my favorite species from people with first-hand experience.

i have learned patience and understanding.. and i have learned there is so much to learn here every day on mfk if you are open to it... Not only something new ABOUT fishkeeping but about ... about people..photography and about life..
